Every time I look back Michigan makes a new list of why we’re the best.
I get it, we’re pretty damn good.
Did you know we were voted one of the best states for car travel? I even made a list of places to visit!
Well, I’m proud to say that two of Michigan’s beaches made it to Fodor’s Travel’s Best Beaches in America list, which are nowhere near the ocean.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
The beaches of Sleeping Bear Dunes took the top spot! Which doesn’t surprise me because it’s 35 miles long.
The good thing is that there are also several different beaches to choose from. So if one is a bit too crowded for your liking, move on to the next.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was also voted one of the best vacation spots!
North Beach Park
Well it would have been nice if they had the right beach name haha. But hey, North Beach Park in Grand Haven came in fifth. They called it North Shore Beach.
This beach runs along the shores of Lake Michigan and includes volleyball courts, picnic areas, and a playground. If you are looking to take some great photos of the beach, you can climb the stairs to the dunes for a panoramic view.
Pet friendly beaches
If your pet is your best friend, why not take it with you on your adventures this summer?
Our great state has several pet friendly beaches you can visit! If it turns out to be an aquatic bug and loves to swim, you can even take it for a paddleboard or kayak ride!
Here is a small list of other pet friendly beaches
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
- Twin Lakes State Park
- Porcupine Mountains
