Tomberlin announces new album with “happy accident” – // MELODIC Magazine

We got the first look at new music from Sarah Beth Tomberlin last month with “idkwntht“, an airy acoustic number that felt revealing in the way it extracted emotion from its simplicity. Today, Tomberlin announced that their new album I don’t know who needs to hear this… will be released on April 29 via Saddle Creek. Along with the announcement, she unveiled “happy accident”, and it’s exceptional. She shared the following about the single:

“’Happy Accident’ is a song about relational darkness. Trying to figure out who you are or who you were to someone. Is this relationship romantic or is it just sex? Do you want to hang out with me or are you just bored? Do I make my own decisions that are good for me or are my decisions mostly based on what I think you might want or need? I was kind of going through moments of previous relationships in my life. I want to know why someone wants to get to know me. Do you want to know me or just your idea of me? Do I want to know you or just my idea of you?

“Happy Accident” is a catchy indie rock track that puts from Tomberlin exceptional vocals in the foreground along a hypnotic guitar line of Cass McCombs. It’s just as impressive as last month’s single, and it echoes like a breath of fresh air in an indie landscape that’s been stale with singer-songwriter sidekicks – this album is going to be very special. She’s also announced a huge European and American tour that will see her perform solo and with a full band, and you can scroll down to see those dates below.
