Earlier this year, Los Angeles-based alternative rock band Weathers shared their second album Pillows and therapy. Presenting honest reflections on the themes of anxiety, depression and the struggle to become an adult, the band embraced grunge alternative rock and synth-laden pop rock, embracing new anthemic sounds and revisiting their influences from the years. 90. Today, the group returns with their new music video for “American Dream”, premiered with Under the Radar.
“American Dream” brings the band’s tangled existential reflections to a larger stage, reflecting on the much-vaunted “American Dream” and the harsh reality of today’s system. Pulsating synths and punchy guitars create extremely sharp pop hooks as the track explores the band’s struggles against alienation 一 “I can’t find a job / I can’t function without weed / I turn around all night / Is this the American dream? ” The band said of the song, “I think everyone feels lost sometimes. And as if there is no way out of the situation you find yourself in. We thought that “American Dream” sums up this feeling perfectly ”
They go on to say of the accompanying animated video, “We wanted to capture the feeling of being stuck in a dystopian system where you are unable to thrive and live your life. MJ Naude, the video host, is a fan we connected with when she posted a video with lyrics from another of our songs. For the “American Dream” video, she did a great job of capturing the hopeless feeling that so many of us can relate to. “
