Creativity can thrive in the darkest times. Marble eyes was born out of the 2020 pandemic. Live music stopped and this band of New Hampshire Seacoast musicians decided to band together and create a collection of music that is best described as “Rock and Roll For The Soul”.
Marble Eyes debut album Back to roses officially released via Color Red on October 21, 2021. Self-produced, this 14-track disc is filled with a wide variety of influences that all come together in a cohesive sound in the realm of pure Rock And Roll. Each band member is a songwriter and there are several lead vocalists mixed with 3 part vocal harmonies reminiscent of bands like The Band and The Traveling Wilburys.
The album begins with the title track, Return To The Roses, which mixes energetic beats with vocal harmonies throughout the song. Two of the previously released singles live on the first half of the album. Tollbooth is a song with a modern post rock twist that is about facing the battles ahead with strength, but realizing that there is a toll to be paid. You Can’t Fool Me is a funk pop song that delves into the mystery of a relationship where no one knows who is cheating on whom.
Deeper into the album, a variety of songs tell stories across different genres in the realm of rock and roll. Feel Alive takes it back to classic 70s rock in the spirit of Traffic and Peter Frampton. Forgive has an 80s pop rock flavor. Dream Sequence has a similar feel to The Who but with a more modern vocal melody. The album’s finale, I’m Done Sleeping, begins with an instrumental piece that is a mix between Groove Armada beat mixed with Neil Young’s Dead Man soundtrack and ends with a powerful US Rock Gospel vocal arrangement. leaving with the lyrics “I’m done sleep ‘until my death”.
Album title Back to roses was chosen because it was the first song that was performed by the group. The mix of instrumental energy and vocal harmony made it clear that something special was happening with this collective of musicians. It all happened in the summer of 2020, outdoors⦠6 feet away. It was and still is a difficult time. Marble Eyes has grabbed the Pandemic Bull by the horns and continues to ride it strong into a whole new realm of creative inspiration.
