THEY say all is fair in love and war – but the same certainly can’t be said for the music business.
Insiders at the Ivor Novello songwriting awards have told me that a backstage dispute is brewing between two of music’s top female stars – Lana Del Rey and Lorde.
It comes after the former accused the latter of copying the melody of two of her songs.
Such disagreements are more and more common, but in a bizarre twist, sources tell me Lorde has quietly accepted the similarity behind the scenes – but refuses to do so publicly, causing further fallout.
An insider in the songwriting industry explained, “The disagreement between Lana and Lorde has been simmering quietly for some time.
“But no one involved wants it to escalate further if possible.
Many Lana fans have reported online one of Lorde’s new songs ‘Stoned At the Nail Salon’ saying that the tune mimics two of her tracks – Wild At Heart and Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have.
“Lana’s team agreed and after an expert got involved and some discussions were debated among everyone involved, Lorde’s people came back and offered Lana a percentage of the song’s publishing rights. . “
But I’m told that despite the offer, Lana isn’t interested in the money – just a public acknowledgment from Lorde that the track was inspired by her.
“This means that the only last way to go would be to take legal action – but everyone is very keen to avoid this to the extent possible and hope that there can be an amicable resolution. the place.
“Forensic experts agree with fans, so this seems to be a pretty clear case.”
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in showbiz, court battles never go well for anyone.
NILES: GREAT TO TAKE A JOB
ARIANA Grande called on Chic’s Nile Rodgers to help her with her album.
The Good Times musician told me that hit-maker Ryan Tedder called him in to produce a track co-written by John Legend.
Nile said: “For the past two weeks I have been preproducing the new The Zuton album.
“I just finished John Legend and Ariana Grande too. Working with Ariana was great.
“Look, Ryan Tedder is such a great writer that when he called me up and gave me the instructions, I was like, ‘I got this.
“I’m not saying this selfishly. I think it’s my job to take artists from one place to another.
“I can’t reveal what the music is like, it’s up to her to reveal it.”
CHARLIE’S A SUCCESS WITH ELTON
AFTER teaming up with the new song After All, Sir Elton John revealed that Charlie Puth now feels like a member of the family.
Speaking about their collaboration from his upcoming album The Lockdown Sessions, Elton said, “Charlie is an amazing musician, we just hit it off.
“He has become a friend and a friend of the family. Our children love him and he loves them.
The couple wrote their track together and Elton said he loved every second of working with the American singer.
He added, “Charlie and I were in the studio, just the two of us.
“He’s got a little setup at home with his keyboards, synths, and Pro Tools.
“I played the electric piano and wrote the song all the way, then Charlie wrote the lyrics pretty quickly.
“He’s incredibly fast, Charlie. We just had amazing chemistry in the studio.
ABBA TO ADD MORE DATES
FANS who missed out on tickets to ABBA’s sold-out hologram shows next year are in luck.
Bjorn Ulvaeus has revealed that the band plan to add more dates to Abba Voyage’s concerts, which take place at the Olympic Park in East London.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes conversation at the Ivors with Apple Music 2021, he said, “We could add more dates because the Abba-tars don’t get tired.
“They can do ten shows a day and they don’t have private jets or riders. They also don’t care about their voice and all that.
The Sun confirmed Abba’s return last month, which will see digital versions of Bjorn and his bandmates Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson and Frida Lyngstad perform their classic hits and new songs.
At the Ivors, Bjorn also poured cold water on the possibility of a third Mamma Mia! movie.
Asked about the prospect of another installment in the film franchise, he said, “I don’t think there’s a chance of having a Mamma Mia! Three.
“You can’t get another story out of it. “
The quartet will meet again during the opening night of the concerts next May.
They spent weeks performing together in front of the cameras to create their digital concert. But earlier this month, Agnetha said she believed it would be their final project.
She said: “There was a vibe, it felt like maybe this was the last thing we did. Same thing with the album.
MAYA IS A DREAM GIRL
LIAM PAYNE’s fiancee Maya Henry looked like she was set to call it a night after hitting London Fashion Week in this pajama-style outfit.
The American model was present at Harris Reed’s first exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in the capital, wearing a silky pink top and pants.
Maya was flying solo without Liam, who had been spotted with her at a Vogue dinner earlier in the week.
BECKS OFF-FIELD KICKS
The successes and failures of DAVID Beckham’s style are legendary.
But the former England captain has now admitted that his four children told him he was too old to wear sneakers.
Becks told Vogue, “I put on a pair of sneakers the other day and they said, ‘Really daddy? Don’t you think you’re a little old for this?
“I said to myself: ‘No! Then I showed them 20 different pictures of me wearing other stuff and they said “OK, maybe you can”.
Just make sure you keep that sarong in the back of the closet thanks to Dave.
WAYNE IS BACK IN FULL FORCE
WHEN Wayne Rooney handed over the England shirt for Soccer Aid, other players might have thought he was going to relax.
But it turns out the Derby County boss didn’t hold back during the game at Man City’s Etihad Stadium.
Tom Grennan, who played for the opposing Rest of the World team earlier this month, said: “I dropped my shoulder on Rooney a few times.
“The strangest thing after the game was that he walked up to me saying, ‘I tried to kick you a few times, but I just couldn’t get close. of you. “
MABEL IS HEAVY PETAL
MABEL often manages to smell the rose in her choice of outfits.
But I’m not too sure about that noisy floral dress she wore to Richard Quinn’s show at London Fashion Week.
The Don’t Call Me Up singer smiled as she arrived at the party in a dress, with a huge bow and matching shoes.
During the night, she rubbed shoulders with stars including model Erin O’Connor and Olympic sprinter Dina Asher-Smith.
Mabel returned to the stage last month and performed an assault set at the Reading Festival.
It was one of the first times she had given a live performance of her latest single Let Them Know, due to the Covid pandemic – and I can confirm that she broke it.
The song is the first of Mabel’s yet to be announced second album, the sequel to 2019’s High Expectations, which was this year’s most popular debut female album.
