Capitol Surprise Releases ‘Pokémon 25: The Red EP’
Vince Staples, Cyn and Mabel join Pokémon 25th anniversary celebration
Capitol Records surprise falls Pokémon 25: The Red EP, which stars Vince Staples, Cyn and ZHU added to the brand’s 25th anniversary celebration. ZHU will remix the tracks for Pokémon 25: The Blue EP, expected later this month. Both EPs reflect the long-standing tradition of dual versions of the main Pokémon video game series, each featuring nuanced differences from each other and paying homage to the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue video games.
The songs of The red EP will appear on the next P25 Music compilation album, which will be released this fall by Capitol Records as part of a massive one-year music campaign by The Pokémon Company International in partnership with Universal Music Group. ZHU’s remixes will be included in the digital edition of the album. Vince Staples, Cyn and ZHU take their seats alongside other P25 artists Katy Perry, Post Malone, J Balvin and Mabel.
On the melodic “Got ‘Em” atmosphere, Staples faces life’s challenges head-on, drawing inspiration from iconic characters from Pokémon Mew and Raichu. Staples recently released their self-titled fourth album on Blacksmith Recordings / Motown Records. The LP debuted as the current No. 1 rap album and landed at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 Chart Release Week. Staples is also currently working on bringing its comedy-drama, The Vince Staples Show, to Netflix.
âI’ve always been a Pokémon fan, so it was especially special to be invited to participate in this 25th anniversary celebration,â Staples shares. “I’m so glad people are hearing ‘Got’ Em ‘and I hope the song resonates with fans, especially those who grew up with Pokémon like me.”
Cyn – who signed with Katy Perry’s Unsub Records and recently contributed two songs to the Oscar winning film’s soundtrack Promising young woman and a remake of Sixpence’s worldwide hit None the Richer “Kiss Me” for He is all that – offers “Wonderful”, a shimmering song that celebrates friendship and the joy of living.
“I’m so excited to release one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, ‘Wonderful’, to celebrate Pokémon 25 years!” Cyn declares. âThis song is special to me because I feel like it comments on growing pains while also emphasizing a destination of grace and a beautiful journey to it – the eggs hatch when they want or in other words , when they’re ready. When I wrote this song my newborn baby was in the room. I can hear the influence of being a new mother in music, it will always sound special to me.
âThe Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue video games introduced Pokémon to the world 25 years ago and we wanted to recognize this important part of the franchise during our 25th anniversary celebrations as part of the P25 Music campaign,â adds Colin Palmer. , Vice President of Marketing, The International Pokémon Society. “Pokémon fans will enjoy the nod to early Pokémon video games with these EPs, while music fans will enjoy exciting new songs and artist remixes on these dual collections.”
