Behind the Music – Vale

[ad_1]

Tipperary producer and singer Vale has released his new single, Allow and Breach. We asked him the BIG questions. . .

A solo project by Eoin Hally (formerly of the band Pale Rivers), Vale has collaborated with the likes of Nashville-based producer Owen Lewis, Icelandic musician Sin Fang (of the band Seabear) and multi-instrumentalist producer David O’Connor.

Although Vale has yet to perform live, an electronic show is in the works with a full four-piece band that includes Alex Ridley (HousePlants, Daithí) on drums, David O’Connor (Pale Rivers, The Workshop Studio) on Ableton and sample duty, Kate Twohig on piano and OP1 and Hally himself on vocals and, as he says, a whole bunch of synths.

Talk about Allow and violate, Vale says, “This is an inner conflict. It is about wanting, more than anything, to give someone more than you can ultimately offer, and accepting that reality that binds us together.

“The realization that in a time of crisis, when someone you love is in danger, the only role you can play is to be there, in the moment. When no one else is. is.”

Tell us three things about yourself?

Vale: “I would say my music is somewhere in the world of electro pop with ambient nuances.”

When I was 19, I toured Malawi with a band I was playing in at the time. We played our own club and festival concerts there and collaborated with local musicians. An incredible experience and an eye-opening on many levels.

For a brief moment, I was going to go to art school after high school. I started a portfolio class, but realized I didn’t have the bottle to spend two weeks sketching a rotting pepper line-drawing. The music seemed much more accessible and immediate to me at that time.

I recently joined a choir for a project. It was a completely unfiltered rock and roll experience. Singing in Latin is a total atmosphere. Vale’s next single will be entirely in Latin.

How would you describe your music?

I would say it’s somewhere in the world of electro pop with ambient undertones.

What are your musical inspirations?

Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Kate Bush, Tom Waits, Kanye West, Angel Olsen.

What’s the first gig you went to and the first record you bought / downloaded?

Technically it was The Drifters with my parents when I was about five or six, but I barely remember it. Next to that was The White Stripes in Marley Park with my brother. We walked in and Peaches was on stage to open the show. I had never seen or heard anything like it. Unbelievable.

I think the first record I bought was Warning by Green Day. Or a tape of Pure morning by Placebo.

What’s your favorite song right now?

Manchester Air by Saint Sister. Unbelievable. Their whole new album is awesome.

Favorite lyrics of all time?

Growing up, I was obsessed with Tom Waits. I listened to so much and researched his music. I don’t listen to her so much these days but her track Who are you Still hits my brain regularly and his way of speaking has definitely shaped my approach to lyrics and inspired me to pursue music.

“How are your gun and your Bible and your sleeping pills? Do you always jump out the windows in expensive clothes? Well I fell in love with your sailor’s mouth and your hurt eyes, you better get down on the ground, no You know it’s war Tell me who are you this time?

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It’s difficult. Run away by Kanye West?
