30 Days of ‘Baby Monkey’ Workout Helped Shred This Guy’s Abs

A few years ago, Athlean-X’s Jesse Laico came up with a basic workout for the viral “Baby Shark” earworm that he claims helped him achieve a visible six-pack in just 30 days. . And while you might not think it possible, he managed to stick to his workout routine on this song and come up with a different ab-shredding routine defined specifically for the “baby monkey” part of the lyrics.

The workout begins with angled vine climbers, mimicking a Tarzan-like climbing motion while leaning back into a seated V-position. This is followed by alternating leg peels (think crunches), sit-ups that incorporate that vine-climbing move, Russian twists (or as Laico calls them here, banana peel twists), plank with alternating toe touches, scissors V-sit, V- sit hold, and finally, while still in that V seated position, Laico finishes with spin work and jazz hands.

With each of these exercises, Laico does not play for a specific number of repetitions, but rather for a specific duration, moving on to the next movement with each verse of the song. As Cavaliere explained when Laico first experienced Baby Shark training, this can be an asset: “Often people schedule repeated workouts for the abs; 10 reps of this, 15 reps of that,” did he declare. “The problem is that 15 reps might not be as hard as it should be for you compared to someone else, so if you’re doing time, time is actually something that can be much more equalizing.”

Moreover, even in his brief moments of rest between each exercise, Laico maintains this V-shaped sitting position: this means that he keeps his trunk under constant tension, thus maximizing the effectiveness of the training. And while it’s a short routine, that also works in its favor, as it can be done daily, or for multiple circuits if you need to crank up the difficulty.

“It’s fun,” Laico says, “and it’s easy to stay consistent.”
